1. The Abdominal Breathing Exercise

Step 1: Stand in the proper standing position described in the previous section.

Step 2: (For Men) Place the palm of your left hand flat on your abdomen about two inches below your navel. (For Women) Place the palm of your right hand flat on your abdomen about two inches below your navel.

Step 3: Place the palm of your other hand directly over the first hand so that the centers of both hands are in line. Do not push with your hands; they should just be held lightly against the abdomen. (Fig. 5)

Note: The opposite hands setting in Step 2 is derived from the ancient Chinese "Yin-Yang" philosophy, in which men and women are believed to have apposite Ki flows.
