1. The Circular Breathing
Exercise Step 1: Stand in the proper
standing position as described in the previous sections. Step 2: Perform a few cycles of
Total Breathing as a "warm-up," to get used to the physical
movement. Step 3: Now we will add mental imagery to the physical movement. As you inhale air into your abdomen through your nose, focus on the mental image that you have holes in the center of the soles of your feet, and that Ki, or life energy, is being sucked in from the ground through these holes. As the air fills your lower abdomen, the Ki is flowing up through your legs and into the abdomen. Thus, your abdomen is being filled not only with air, but also with Ki. (Fig. 14)
